West End Women and Girls Centre- Winners of Community Organisation Gender National Diversity Award 2013

West End Women and Girls Centre are the winners of  the Community Organisation Gender Award from The National Diversity Awards 2013

To be Shortlisted from 4,500 nominations is a tremendous achievement, and a testament to all your hard work and dedication. West End Women and Girls Centre now stand in the final 3 organisations shotlisted for the award!

The National Diversity Awards, was held at the Queens Hotel on September 20th, will honour the outstanding achievements of grass root communities who have contributed to making a more diverse and inclusive society.

Leeds will play host to the prestigious black-tie event which has been sponsored by a growing list of top employers including Microsoft, Transport for London, Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC), Sky, MI5, The Co-operative Group, The Open University and the Financial Ombudsman Service amongst others.

The awards have gained a mass of celebrity support from the likes of Stephen Fry, paralympians Jody Cundy and Claire Harvey and singing sensation Misha B.

West End Women and Girls Centre is seeking interested women to join its Board of Trustees. We are particularly looking for committed and enthusiastic women who have time and energy to give to the Board, but it would be an added bonus if you had the following experience or skill;

  • Promotion and marketing
  • Voluntary sector management
  • Financial management

The Centre is based in the West End of Newcastle and has provided a range of support services, empowering women and girls over the last 31 years. Services operating from the centre include;

  • Safe Project, a community based domestic violence project
  • Girls youth work
  • Community gardening
  • Community cooking
  • Weekly brunch for women to meet up with other women
  • Volunteering opportunities
  • Hall and room hire
